Mohammad Guddu. Indian man was saved after doctors at a government hospital cut open his skull in order to pull out the rod during a five-hour operation.
24-year-old Mohammad Guddu was mixing cement at a construction site in Malad, Mumbai, when the rod accidentally fell from a higher floor and pierced through his head.
He is reportedly paralysed in left side of his body.
'It was tricky surgery but what helped saving him was the fact that the road has pierced a noneloquent region of his brain.
According to a report in Daily Mail, the metallic rod hit the worker with such force that it went through his head and protruded from the back of his skull.
Doctors conducted a five-hour surgery to remove the 2-metre iron rod.
He is said to be out of danger but requires up to three months to fully recover.
Mr Guddu is likely to remain in hospital for at least another two weeks before he is released.
His friends and co-workers who witnessed the shocking incident, have also spoken out, saying they are amazed he survived the incident.
One said: '"He had joined work just 15 days ago and on the fateful day, he was working on the other side when we heard his screams.
'When we reached the spot we could not believe a rod had pierced through his skull. He was conscious and asking for help.
'He is a strong lad, and we are just so elated that he survived this accident.'
